Equipment

  • A frying pan
  • a deep plate
  • a spatula

Ingredients

  • ½ cup eggnog
  • 1 medium size egg
  • ¼ teaspoon nutmeg
  • ½ teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 8 slices Rosca (Egg bread), sliced in half inch width
  • 2 teaspoons butter or ghee

Optional

  • 1 tablespoon maple syrup

Instructions

  • In the deep plate, add eggnog, nutmeg, egg, and vanilla. Mix everything until everything is combined.
  • Heat the frying pan over low heat and add the butter so that it melts.
  • Pass the bread through the mixture on both sides. Fry for 3 minutes on each side or until it’s golden brown on both sides. Repeat this process until you finish cooking all the toast slices.
  • Once golden on both sides, remove from the pan, and serve. You can add maple syrup, honey, or more eggnog to serve. Enjoy! In the notes section you can find other toppings.

Notes

Substitutions:
  • Eggnog: you can use the one with alcohol if you want. I prefer the non alcoholic version option and you can share it with the children. You can use homemade if you have on hand.
  • Rosca de Pan (Egg Bread): you can use any type of bread you have on hand. It is easy to use the leftover rosca. I recommend using any bread made from egg, as it generates a better consistency and absorbs the mixture better.
  • Spices: if you like almonds, you can add almond essence, and it gives it a delicious flavor. You can add cinnamon powder if you prefer, it is like traditional flavor to french toast.
Toppings and servings suggestions and other tips:
  • You can accompany these French toasts with a cup of coffee and scrambled eggs.
  • If you prefer and have ham or turkey leftover from the holidays, you can make an omelet and serve it with them.
  • You can eat it for dessert if you serve it with vanilla ice cream. This combination is a success you must try.
  • You can use toppings like fruit (banana, strawberries, canned peach), a little powdered sugar, maple syrup, honey, even a bit more eggnog.
  • How to store leftovers? You can store them in an airtight container for up to 3 days.
  • Can I make them in advance? You can cook them in advance one or two days before and reheat them in the pan with a little more butter. If you have an air fryer, you can also heat them there (3-5 minutes at maximum temperature).
