Get To Know Nadja
I was born and raised in Panama City, Panama. I'm passionate about sharing the vibrant flavors of Latin and Caribbean cuisine, made easy for busy home cooks.
As someone who has been cooking at home for around 20 years, I'm familiar with the difficulties of preparing tasty meals while dealing with a hectic schedule, especially when cooking for only two people.
My culinary journey began alongside my mom and abuela "Sixta," who immersed me in the rich traditions of Panamanian, Latin, and Caribbean cuisine.
Growing up, I was fortunate enough to experience the joys of fresh ingredients and the love that goes into sharing meals with family and friends.
This has left me with a deep appreciation for the simple pleasures of life, and a passion for creating delicious and memorable meals that bring people together.
I mostly watched when my mom and abuela cooked, but they never measured anything. Just add until you feel it has the right amount and taste as it should!
Through trial and error, have helped me learn form all those experiences. I also attended cooking classes to learn about healthy cooking when I was in the "healthier time" around 2014. Even now, I occasionally enjoy attending these classes to learn about new cooking techniques.
Abuela "Sixta" used to call me "Nashi" hence the name of the blog, I decided I could have a reminder of her on this blog.
When I began blogging in 2016, I had to familiarize myself with measuring ingredients instead of relying on intuition to recreate the recipes. Since moving in with my boyfriend, I have focused on crafting smaller servings.
We had to cook only for two, and when whe cooked a big batch we got bored of eating the same thing all the time, so we preferred cooking smaller portions.
I have been refining this skill for at least eight years and try to avoid preparing large amounts of leftovers, except when it comes to rice.
I've found that a few kitchen appliances that have become effort and time savers in the kitchen - slow cooker, rice cooker and pressure cooker. Check out my favorites applicances here.
Through Nashi Food, I strive to inspire home cooks to embrace Latin and Caribbean cooking in their own kitchens.
